Onje Gye-Wado, a former deputy governor of Nasarawa state and ex-dean of the faculty of law at Nasarawa State University, was kidnapped from his residence in Gwagi village, Wamba LGA by unidentified gunmen in the early hours of Friday.
Gye-Wado, served under the administration of the current National Chairman of APC, Abdullahi Adamu, as Deputy Governor between 1999 and 2003.
Ramhan Nansel, police spokesperson in the state, confirmed the incident in a statement, assuring the public that efforts were underway to rescue the victim.
According to Nansel, the commissioner of police has mobilised and deployed reinforcement comprising police tactical teams, military, vigilante, and local hunters to rescue the hostage and arrest the perpetrators of the act. The police commissioner has urged the public to report any useful information that can aid in the rescue operation.
