Two judges at the Court of Appeals on Thursday dropped terrorism charges against separatist leader Nnamdi Kanu that had been brought against him by the government. The last of the three judges at the court was still reading their ruling. The lead judge dismissed a seven count charge of terrorism against Kanu and discharged him, citing that a lower court had no jurisdiction to try the case and that Kanu was abducted and extraordinarily extradited to Nigeria. Buhari swears in Ariwoola as substantive CJN

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday swore in Olukayode Ariwoola as the substantive chief justice of Nigeria (CJN). The swearing in ceremony took place before the weekly federal executive council (FEC) meeting at the state house, Abuja. Rotimi Akeredolu, Ondo state governor, and Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo, were present at the event. Nigeria’s oil output continued to fall in September as some onshore production ground almost to a halt, according to government data. The West African country produced a daily average of 1.14 million barrels of crude oil and condensate –- a light hydrocarbon -– last month, about 42,000 barrels fewer than in August, figures published by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission show.
