Alaafin of Oyo, Lamidi Adeyemi, is dead

Alaafin of Oyo, Lamidi Adeyemi, has passed. Adeyemi, the third from the Alowodu Ruling House, died in the late hours of Friday at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti. The remains of the top Yoruba traditional ruler were brought to Oyo in the early hours of Saturday and traditional rites began, palace sources told this newspaper. He was 83 years old and the longest reigning Alaafin ever, having ruled for 52 years. Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) says President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the reopening of four more land borders. The borders are Idiroko in Ogun, Jibiya in Katsina, Kamba in Kebbi and Ikom in Cross River. In August 2019, Nigeria closed its land borders over the proliferation of illegal importation of drugs, small arms and agricultural products into Nigeria from neighbouring West African countries. Debt Management Office (DMO) has announced offers for subscription, by auction, of three batches of N75 billion bonds. In a statement yesterday, it stated that the auction date is April 25, 2022, while settlement would be on April 27, 2022. It said the N75bn bond would have a 13.53 per cent interest rate maturing by March 2025 with a 10-year re-opening.
