New Generation Leadership, NGL, has advised the Nigerian Government to embark on massive media campaign to enlighten and educate the public on the dreaded Covid-19 pandemic to be able to curtail its spread, as infected people continue to increase in the country daily.

The advice was given by a member of NGL, Mr Dayo da-Silva while donating food items, toiletries, sanitisers and other needs to the Gideons Orphanage Home, in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Mr da-Silva who said the  donation was a token of support to the special Children by NGL, at a time when the coronavirus pandemic was hitting hard on the Country, enjoined good spirited Nigerians to remember the less-privileged in the society.

He observed that, "a lot still needs to be done in terms of public awareness, enlightenment and education to ensure Covid -19 does not continue to spread."

According to him,"the people must know what to do and how to go about it, and this can only be achieved through massive media campaign and publicity".

Mr da-Silva urged State and Local Government authorities to follow the Federal Government's step of creating palliative measures by devising a social support system where food items and financial assistance are able to reach residents of the two States and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, under lockdown, without compromising the social distance precaution.

In his words, “meaningful palliative measures, which will include food bank support and financial assistance should be considered for residents in Abuja, Lagos and Ogun States which are on lock down to contain the dreaded Covid-19, presently ravaging the world".

Mr da-Silva noted that artisans, traders and others who earn daily income would find it hard to survive without working, now that there is a lockdown.

He said, "State and local Governments must come to the aid of the people at this time, by providing support or else the resultant effects of the sit-at-home order will be negative".

Mr da-Silva assured that "NGL will continue to play its role in enhancing a better Nigeria but all hands must be on deck".

He thanked all members of NGL for their magnanimity, noting that a token of five thousand naira each has been earmarked for forty people who would be selected randomly on the group's Facebook page.

NGL warned Nigerians to take seriously the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic, thus the need to adhere strictly with all the precautions given by concerned agencies.

"It is the work of everybody to curtail the spread of the disease by obeying the precautions of washing hands with soap and water, maintaining social distance and avoiding contact with sick people, among others.”
