Julius Abure, the National Chairman of the Labour Party, has accused thugs escorted by police officers believed to be working for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of breaking into the party's national headquarters in Abuja.

In a statement he personally signed, Abure alleged that the invaders armed with weapons, breached the fences, burglaries, doors and windows of the building in order to gain access to their secretariat situated in the Utako district of the federal capital.

He claimed that during the invasion, the assailants sacked workers and party members who were present at the secretariat at the time.

Abure further stated that he was not present at the time of the incident as he was out of town. He revealed that the invaders' objective was to inaugurate an illegitimate executive allegedly chosen for them by their sponsors. He also noted that a similar invasion occurred a few days earlier at the Imo state secretariat of the party, and that the secretariat is still being occupied by agents of the Imo State Government.

Abure emphasized that the LP is a political party contesting for power, but it is being suffocated. He stated that the party's presidential candidate, Peter Obi, had earlier raised an alarm about a plot to hound him out of the country. He noted that the LP had approached the Presidential tribunal to contest its third-place ranking by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), adding that this was the party's only offence.

The LP National Chairman called on President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene and stop the APC from further suffocating other political parties. He also urged the police, APC and their sponsors to respect the rights and privileges of other political parties, particularly the Labour Party to contest for power. Abure warned that the party would no longer tolerate the often-intimidation and deployment of brute force against it and its personnel.
