Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state has fingered his Kaduna state counterpart, Nasir el-Rufai as one of the real enemies of Nigeria and the very few persons misleading President Muhammadu Buhari. He maintained that the Kaduna state Governor is a sycophant, ethnic champion and religious bigot who hated anyone who did not share the same faith with him. The Benue state Governor who in a statement weekend in Makurdi by his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase, was reacting to a statement credited to the Kaduna state Governor who alleged that Ortom was attacking the federal government over insecurity in his…
Pro-independence parties won a majority in Scotland’s parliament on Saturday, paving the way to a high-stakes political, legal and constitutional battle with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson over the future of the United Kingdom. Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said the result meant she would push ahead with plans for a second independence referendum once the Covid-19 pandemic was over, adding that it would be absurd and outrageous if Johnson were to try to ignore the democratic will of the people. “There is simply no democratic justification whatsoever for Boris Johnson, or indeed for anyone else, seeking to block the…

Adamu Jauro, who delivered the judgment of the apex court in a virtual court session on Friday, held that the deregistration of the affected political parties, including National Unity Party (NUP) was in compliance with the extant provisions of the Constitution and Electoral Act. Supreme Court on Friday overturned the decision of Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State to sack local government chairmen and councillors in the state. The apex court also noted that the replacement of the sacked officials with caretaker committees was illegal and fined Makinde’s administration N20 million. While the court agreed that the tenures of the sacked council chairmen and councillors have expired, it ordered that all their outstanding salaries and allowances must be paid with immediate effect. Few hours after his inauguration as governor in 2019, Makinde sacked the officials who were elected in 2018. He told them to…
A former president, Olusegun Obasanjo on Wednesday described calls for the disintegration of Nigeria as unmindful and insensitive to the plight of the minority groups in the country. Obasanjo made the observation when he received the Tiv Professional Group (TPG) from Benue State, who paid him a courtesy visit in Abeokuta. The former President recalled a discussion between him and “a military friend” who, according to him, has described major tribes in the country as selfish and not sufficiently caring for the minority groups. Obasanjo, who aligned with his friend’s opinion, expressed worry over what would become of the minority…

Speaking in Lagos during the 2021 Pre-synod summit organised by the Diocese of Lagos, Anglican Communion, on Saturday, Fayemi described the insecurity in the country as “frightening”. He noted that Nigeria has shown “enormous resilience in confronting the challenges,” adding, “even though the ethno-religious crisis might not have been fully wiped out, the intensity of its occurrence has gone down considerably.” He said efforts of the government to contain the insecurity…
PRESS RELEASE An outsider distilling the avalanche of verbiage, will be surprised that after supporting the President two times to win the Presidency, Father Mbaka has made a complete U-Turn, preposterously asking President Muhammadu Buhari to resign or be impeached. Here is the point of departure: Mbaka asked for a meeting and to the shock of Presidential Aides, he came accompanied by three contractors. The President graciously allowed them in, and to everyone’s surprise, Mbaka asked for contracts as compensation for his support. Anyone familiar with Buhari knows that he doesn’t break the laid down rules in dealing with contracts…
