The Supreme Court on Friday upheld the de-registration of 22 political parties by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). A federal high court in Abuja has sacked 20 members of the Cross River state house of assembly. Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had instituted a suit against the lawmakers over their defection to All Progressives Congress (APC). The judgement in the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/975/2021 was delivered on Monday. Federal High Court in Umuahia, Abia State, on Friday struck down an innovation captured in section 84(12) of the recently amended Electoral Act. The novel statutory provision had prohibited political appointees from voting as delegates in party conventions or congresses for the election or nomination of candidates.
