A Kano State Upper Sharia Court on Thursday sentenced an Islamic cleric, Abduljabbar Kabara, to death by hanging after he was found guilty of the 4-count charge of blasphemy filed by the Kano State government. Headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) along Port Harcourt Road, Imo State, came under attack on Monday as gunmen invaded the office. Our correspondent gathered that the hoodlums, numbering more than 10, attacked the facilities of the electoral body at 3am. Gunmen enforcing sit-at-home on Friday evening killed four persons at two locations on Owerri-Okigwe Road in Imo State. The gunmen also kidnapped two expatriates supervising the ongoing construction of the phase 11 of the Owerri-Okigwe Road. The killings occurred at Umunachi in the Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of the state and at Umuna in the Onuimo LGA, respectively. Gunmen have abducted a former accountant general of Cross River State, Rose Bassey. She was abducted with three others on Tuesday at the Uyanga axis of the Calabar-Ikom Highway. The gunmen, who laid siege to that axis on the busy highway, shot at motorists and forced them to a halt. A popular evangelist in the state, Edim Omin, was shot during the attack. Gunmen on Tuesday night abducted a Corps member, Adenike, and seven others in Extension 2 Relocation, along Arab Road, Kubwa area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. An office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been set ablaze in Imo State. The development comes days after an office of the commission was torched in Ebonyi State, with electoral materials, including ballot boxes, destroyed.
